Nazarbayev himself resigned as Security Council chairman of Kazakhistan - Spokesman
"Former President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev himself has decided to transfer the post of chairman of the Security Council to the current head of state Kasym-Jomart Tokayev," said Aydos Ukibay, spokesman for the country's first President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Ann.az reports.

"There are many rumors and provocative articles about the first president in the media and social networks. In the current situation, we consider such activity as an attempt to destabilize the political situation and undermine the constitutional foundations of the state. Nazarbayev is in Nur-Sultan and supports Tokayev. The situation was very difficult, and the President himself decided to hand over the presidency of the Security Council to the President, knowing full well that riots and terrorism require an immediate, harsh and uncompromising response from the country's leadership. Nazarbayev and Tokayev have always been on the same side of the barricades defending their people, their country and the future of the nation. In these difficult times for all of us, they have once again demonstrated a monolithic state power," said Mr. Ukibay.
